As Christians across Nigeria and around the world commemorate the resurrection of Jesus Christ, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), representing the 19 Northern States and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has extended warm Easter greetings to the faithful and to all Nigerians.
In a statement signed by Reverend John Joseph Hayab, Chairman of the Northern CAN, the association described Easter as a powerful reminder that “even in the face of pain and despair, hope can be reborn.” He noted that the celebration is not just a religious ritual but a call to awaken the nation’s collective conscience.
Reverend Hayab emphasized the pivotal role of women in the quest to rebuild and heal society, referring to them as “the unseen architects of homes, the moral compass of families, and the uncelebrated shapers of communities.”
He lamented the continued denial of educational opportunities for girls in parts of the country, warning that such neglect could have far-reaching consequences.
“Denying girls access to education does more than limit individual potential. It threatens our collective future. A girl who is denied education today may become a mother tomorrow who lacks the capacity to guide her children away from violence, ignorance, and moral collapse,” Hayab stated.
The association urged parents, community leaders, and political authorities to place the welfare of their people above personal interests, stressing the need to “raise daughters who lead with wisdom and integrity” and to “invest in women who turn their homes into spaces of peace, their communities into beacons of learning, and their leadership into vehicles of selfless service.”
CAN’s message also contained specific calls to action, including:
A renewed and strategic approach to securing lives and property across Northern Nigeria.
Adequate compensation and rehabilitation for victims of insurgency and violence.
Increased commitment to girl-child education as a foundation for national development.
Implementation of inclusive policies that uphold justice, equity, and human dignity.
Establishment and support of community-based peacebuilding and trauma-healing initiatives.
