The Forum of Northeast State Chairmen of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has strongly condemned the exclusion of the entire Northeast geopolitical zone from the Federal Government’s Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones (SAPZ) initiative, describing the move as “deliberate, unjust, and unacceptable.”
The Forum issued the statement on Friday at the end of its zonal meeting held in Gombe. In a communiqué read by the Gombe State SDP Chairman, Comrade Adamu Abubakar Modibbo, the party leaders urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to urgently address what they termed as an act of marginalization against the region.
“We call on President Bola Tinubu and the Federal Government to urgently reconsider this exclusion and ensure that the region benefits equitably from national development projects,” Modibbo stated.
The Forum emphasized that the Northeast, known for its vast agricultural resources and expansive landmass, deserves a fair share in key developmental programs aimed at enhancing food production and rural economies.
The meeting brought together SDP Chairmen from Gombe, Bauchi, Adamawa, and Yobe States. It was convened to strengthen internal party unity and strategize ahead of future electoral contests, particularly the 2027 general elections.
During the meeting, the Forum unanimously passed a vote of confidence in the national leadership of the party under Shehu Gabam, commending his inclusive and visionary leadership style. They lauded his efforts to reposition the SDP as Nigeria’s most credible political alternative.
The Forum also reiterated its commitment to upholding the rule of law, warning against any attempts by government institutions or security agencies to undermine constitutional rights.
“The growing number of defectors and new members joining the SDP across the Northeast is evidence of rising public trust in the party’s leadership and vision,” Modibbo added.
The Forum pledged continued collaboration to foster unity within the party and mobilize support at the grassroots level in preparation for the 2027 elections.
