The Northern Nigeria Union Conference (NNUC) of the Seventh-day Adventist Church has held a three-day Stewardship Summit aimed at reinforcing integrity, faithfulness, and accountability among church leaders.
The summit, which took place from April 17 to 19, 2025, was held under the theme “Called to Be Faithful: Leading with Integrity in God’s Service.” It brought together principal officers, pastors, and departmental directors from the six Conferences and Missions under the NNUC umbrella.
Speaking during the summit, the President of NNUC, Pastor (Dr) Istifanus Ishaya, emphasized that Christian leadership goes beyond holding positions, urging leaders to model Christ-like character in all aspects of their service.
“Leadership is not merely about holding a position. It is about modelling Christ’s character in all that we do,” Pastor Ishaya said. “We are entrusted with the sacred responsibility of guiding God’s people, managing His resources, and ensuring that His mission is carried out with diligence and sincerity.”
He also noted that stewardship includes not only finances but also time, talents, influence, and a daily walk with God, adding that faithfulness in small things prepares leaders for greater responsibilities.
The summit featured key presentations and discussions on topics such as “The Pastor, Stewardship Champion,” “Church Budget: A Guide to Successful Planning,” “Levies: Satan’s Subtle Weapon to Destroy the Church,” and “Debt: Ever-Present Threat to Faithfulness.” These sessions were delivered by experienced pastors and church administrators.
In his welcome address, NNUC Stewardship Director, Elder Emmanuel Ogbonna, described the event as a “divinely appointed moment” for spiritual reflection and recommitment. He stressed that stewardship is a test of commitment to God and not limited to financial management.
“Stewardship reflects how we use our time, talents, and opportunities for God’s glory,” Ogbonna stated.
A highlight of the summit was a special worship session on Saturday, where Pastor Ishaya led a prayer for peace and comfort in Plateau, Benue, and Nasarawa States, following deadly attacks by herdsmen during the recent Christmas season, which claimed over 100 lives.
The summit concluded with a renewed pledge by church leaders to uphold integrity, accountability, and faithfulness in all areas of ministry.
