Sokoto, Nigeria – 23, 2025
In a significant humanitarian gesture aimed at alleviating hunger and supporting internally displaced persons (IDPs), the Aliko Dangote Foundation has commenced the distribution of 30,000 bags of 10kg rice to vulnerable families across all 23 Local Government Areas of Sokoto State.
The food relief initiative was officially launched at the Government House in Sokoto, drawing praise from both state officials and traditional leaders. The state currently grapples with rising poverty levels and a growing number of displaced persons, with UNICEF estimating over 500,000 IDPs as of November 2024.
Speaking at the launch, the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Bello Sifawa, who represented Governor Ahmed Aliyu, described the donation as a “timely and impactful intervention” in the state’s ongoing efforts to address poverty and food insecurity.
“This gesture by the Aliko Dangote Foundation will go a long way in supporting government’s effort to reduce poverty and improve the living conditions of our people,” Sifawa said, noting that distribution committees had been established to ensure transparency and equitable allocation.
The Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar, represented by the Galadiman Gari, Alhaji Aliyu Attahiru, also commended the Foundation’s consistent support for vulnerable populations and urged beneficiaries to use the aid as intended.
Sadiq Ahmad, who spoke on behalf of the Foundation, emphasized that the initiative is part of Dangote’s broader Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts designed to cushion the effects of economic hardship across Nigeria.
“We’ve previously empowered 23,000 women across Sokoto’s LGAs and distributed food to physically challenged individuals. This is another phase of our continued commitment to serve humanity,” Ahmad stated.
The Aliko Dangote Foundation reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining humanitarian efforts through targeted interventions across Nigeria, especially in regions most affected by displacement and poverty.
