The Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, has declared the full support of the Ilorin Emirate for the National Orientation Agency’s (NOA) renewed efforts to promote behavioural change and social reorientation across Kwara State and the North Central zone.
The Emir gave the assurance on Thursday while receiving the NOA Zonal Director for North Central, Dr Priscilla Gondo-Aluor, and her delegation at his palace in Ilorin.
Welcoming the establishment of the North Central Zonal Directorate in Kwara, the monarch described the decision as “wise and strategic,” citing the state’s peaceful environment and culture of hospitality as factors that would support the agency’s mission.
“Kwara is known for peace and hospitality, and I have no doubt that your work here will receive the support of both the Emirate and our people,” the Emir said. “We are ready to work with you to promote behavioural change and national values.”
He also offered prayers for the success of the current administration and expressed optimism that initiatives like the NOA’s would foster meaningful national transformation.
In her remarks, Dr Gondo-Aluor emphasized the role of traditional institutions in grassroots mobilization, describing royal fathers as being closest to the people and key to ensuring the success of national reorientation campaigns.
“The traditional institution plays a central role in our efforts. Without their input and support, our message may not reach the grassroots effectively,” she stated.
Dr Gondo-Aluor also briefed the Emir on the recent restructuring within the NOA, which led to the creation of a North Central Zonal Directorate, now headquartered in Ilorin. The zone comprises Kwara, Kogi, Niger, Nasarawa, Plateau, Benue, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
She congratulated the Emir on his 85th birthday and commended his reign, noting that his leadership has nurtured many influential figures, including the current NOA Director General, Mallam Issa Onilu.
According to her, “Mallam Onilu is a visionary leader already exceeding expectations with his innovative approach to national orientation.”
Also speaking during the visit, NOA State Director Alhaji Abdulganiyu Dare explained that the visit was both to honour the Emir on his birthday and to strengthen collaboration with the traditional institution in ensuring effective reorientation efforts across the state.
The newly established zonal office is expected to enhance oversight and coordination of NOA’s activities across the region and deepen its impact at the community level.
