Just In: Rivers Sole Administrator, Ibas, Attends National Economic Council Meeting at Aso Rock

Vice President Kashim Shettima on Thursday presided over the National Economic Council (NEC) meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, with an unexpected attendee—Ibok-Ete Ibas, the Sole Administrator of Rivers State.

Ibas’ presence at the NEC meeting, traditionally attended by state governors, follows ongoing political tensions in Rivers State and raises questions about federal involvement in the state’s governance.

Also present was Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, who recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Other governors in attendance included Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia (Benue), Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq (Kwara), Monday Okpebholo (Edo), and Bassey Otu (Cross River). Several deputy governors were also spotted at the meeting.

The NEC, chaired by the Vice President, is a constitutional body that advises the President on economic affairs and coordinates economic planning efforts across the country.
