The Kwara State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mr. Onifade Olaoluwa Joshua, has called on the state government, local councils, and employers of labour to enhance their support for corps members serving across the state.
Speaking at the official swearing-in ceremony of the 2025 Batch ‘A’ Stream 1 corps members held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Yikpata, Edu Local Government Area, Mr. Onifade commended the Federal Government for the recent upward review of corps members’ monthly allowance.
He, however, appealed to state-level stakeholders to complement this gesture by providing additional welfare support, particularly in the areas of accommodation and transportation stipends.
“We are grateful to Mr. President and the Federal Government for the upward review of corps members’ allowance. It is now time for the state, local governments and employers to also show their commitment by improving the welfare packages for our corps members,” he stated.
Mr. Onifade stressed the need for corps employers—who directly benefit from the services of corps members—to play a more active role in their welfare.
He noted that improved support would encourage better performance and deepen national service commitment among young Nigerians.
“In this current economic situation, the only way to get the best from these young Nigerians is to motivate them. A better welfare package is not just a kind gesture—it is necessary,” he added.
A total of 1,308 corps members were sworn in during the ceremony. The oath of allegiance was administered by Justice H. Ajayi on behalf of the Chief Judge of Kwara State.
Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who was represented by the Commissioner for Youth Development, Hon. Shehu Ndanusa Usman, welcomed the new corps members to the state.
He described Kwara as a peaceful and accommodating state and urged the inductees to uphold the core values of unity, discipline, and selfless service throughout their service year.
Justice Ajayi, in her remarks, encouraged the corps members to live up to the commitments enshrined in their oath and to conduct themselves in a manner that reflects the ideals of the NYSC scheme.
