The Sardauna Traditional Council has announced the passing of one of its most senior members, Alhaji Suleimanu B. Titong, popularly known as the Turakin Mambilla.

He died on Saturday, April 19, 2025, at the age of 91.

In a statement issued by his son, Hon. Abdulaziz Suleiman Titong, the Chiroman Kuma and Member Representing Gembu Constituency in the Taraba State House of Assembly, the family expressed deep sorrow over the loss but gave thanks to Allah for a life well lived.

“We are indeed saddened by the demise of our beloved father, but we are grateful to Allah (SWT) for the fulfilled and exemplary life he lived. His legacies will remain indelible in the hearts of many,” the statement read.

In 2012, he was appointed Acting Chief of Mambilla by the then Governor of Taraba State, Danbaba Danfulani Suntai.

His appointment helped to ease a prolonged chieftaincy dispute following the death of HRH Alhaji Muhammadu Mansur.

His tenure ended in 2013 when he formally handed over to Dr. Shehu Audu Baju II, who became the substantive Chief of the Mambilla Kingdom.

Reacting to the news, the Executive Chairman of Sardauna Local Government Area, Hon. Muhammad J. Umar, described the late elder as “an epitome of peace and unity,” and offered his condolences to the Chief of Mambilla and the bereaved family.

Dignitaries, traditional rulers, and stakeholders attended the three-day and seven-day funeral prayers. Among those present were:

Chief Dr. Gee Tee Kataps, Jagaban Gaahaka and Secretary to the Taraba State Government

Rt. Hon. Abel Peter Diah, former Speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly now member Mbamnga state Constituency.

Hon. Alhaji Abubakar Bawa, Santurakin Gashaka and Chairman, PDP Taraba state

The Taraba State PDP Chairman, along with other community leaders and sympathizers
