Senator Shuaibu Lau, who represents Taraba North Senatorial District, has promised to connect the Abbare Mayo-Lope community in Lau Local Government Area to the national electricity grid.
The lawmaker made the commitment on Saturday during the maiden edition of the Sungki Yandang Cultural Carnival held in Mayo-Lope.
Lau said the planned electrification project would significantly improve the economic fortunes of the area and create employment opportunities for the teeming youth population.
While expressing gratitude to the Yandang people for their support during the 2023 general elections, he described their votes as a mandate for peace, development, and stability.
He assured the community that he would fulfill his campaign promises and bring development to the area.
He also urged residents to continue to live peacefully with one another and their neighbors.
Also speaking at the event, Hon. Audu Lauya, who represents Lau, Karim Lamido, and Ardo Kola Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, challenged ethnic groups across the country to translate the Nigerian National Anthem into their native languages.
He commended the Yandang people for singing all three stanzas of the anthem in their dialect and promised to support Yandang youths in securing federal jobs. He urged qualified candidates to apply for the ongoing Nigerian Army recruitment exercise.
Lauya described the Yandang people as peace-loving and dependable.
In his remarks, Taraba State Governor Dr. Agbu Kefas, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Chief Timothy Kataps, pledged to rehabilitate and reintegrate Yandang communities displaced by the 2018 farmers-herders conflict.
Kataps also commended the cultural festival, saying the government would include it in the state’s official cultural calendar.
The event attracted members of the Yandang community from across the country as well as traditional leaders from Gombe, Adamawa, and Taraba States.
