The Federal Government has commissioned the South West Regional Training Centre of the Agricultural and Rural Management Training Institute (ARMTI) in Ibadan, Oyo State, as part of efforts to deepen agricultural development and create employment opportunities across the country.
Speaking during the inauguration, Executive Director of ARMTI, Dr. Olufemi Oladunni, said the new facility is the fourth regional centre established by the institute, complementing existing offices in Bauchi (North East), Kaduna (North West), and Ahoada in Rivers State (South South).
Oladunni noted that the decentralisation of ARMTI’s training programmes is aimed at enhancing access to capacity-building initiatives, particularly for grassroots farmers. He added that the move aligns with the Federal Government’s broader objectives on food security, poverty reduction, and agribusiness development.
Representing the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Barrister Olasunkanmi Olaleye, described the development as a landmark achievement for the state and the region. He commended the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security for bringing key training and support services closer to rural communities.
“This is what governance should look like—providing practical support where it is most needed,” he said.
The Ibadan centre commenced operations with a training session on Farm Business Planning and Development, which participants described as insightful and beneficial to their farming enterprises.
