The 16th Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II, has approved the appointment of five senior traditional title holders in the Kano Emirate Council, including a new Galadiman Kano.

The appointments, which were announced and formalised at a turbaning ceremony in Kano on Thursday, include Alhaji Munir Sanusi Bayero as Galadiman Kano. Bayero, who also serves as the District Head of Bichi, is among the prominent figures elevated by the Emir.
Others appointed are: Alhaji Kabir Tijjani Hashim, District Head of Nassarawa, as Wamban Kano; Alhaji Mahmud Ado Bayero, District Head of Gwale, as Turakin Kano; Adam Lamido Sanusi as Tafidan Kano; and Alhaji Ahmad Abbas Sanusi as Yariman Kano.

Speaking during the ceremony, Emir Sanusi urged the new councillors to uphold the values of integrity, humility, and service to humanity, which, he noted, have long defined the emirate’s leadership tradition.
“You have been selected based on your individual track records and the legacies of your families. Your continued commitment to the welfare of the people and the preservation of the emirate’s dignity is well recognised,” Sanusi said.

The ceremony, held at the Kano Emir’s Palace, was attended by the Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, members of the state executive council, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and dignitaries from across the state.
In a separate development, the 15th Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, conducted a parallel turbaning ceremony at the Nassarawa Mini Palace, where he appointed Alhaji Sunusi Lamido Ado Bayero as Galadiman Kano.

The development comes amid ongoing tensions over the Kano Emirate’s leadership structure, following the controversial reinstatement of Emir Sanusi by the state government earlier this year.
