The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has declared that adversaries of the Nigerian state will soon feel the effect of new techniques and procedures recently introduced by the Nigerian Army.
Oluyede made this known on Tuesday in Bauchi, at the Victor Kure Armour Range, shortly after a firepower demonstration exercise held to mark the conclusion of the 2025 Combat Arms Training (CAT) Week.
Represented by the Commander, Ordnance Corps, Major General Henry Wesley, the COAS said the federal government has procured substantial quantities of military equipment and weaponry to enhance ongoing efforts to combat insurgency and other security threats.
He stressed that the Army, in collaboration with the Presidency, is working diligently to ensure that ongoing reforms in military strategy are effectively implemented across all levels of operation.
“This event is significant because it showcases the practical application of the strategies, operations, and tactics we have reviewed,” he said. “The impact will be evident in the field, as enemies will soon witness the effectiveness of the Army’s renewed approach.”
According to him, the week-long training enabled officers to assess capabilities, review doctrine, and test operational readiness using the latest tools and tactics incorporated into the Army’s combat strategy.
“The firepower demonstration acquaints participants with the current level of our combat capability, and some of the equipment already procured are actively being deployed in operations, while others are en route,” he added.
Also speaking, the Commander of the Nigerian Army Armoured Corps, Major General Obinna Ajunwa, said the CAT Week served as a platform to address operational challenges and share best practices among combat arms and support units.
He commended both serving and retired senior officers for their presence and active engagement, noting that their participation underscores the importance of sustained knowledge-sharing within the military.
