The trial of former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, on allegations of money laundering was stalled yesterday at the Federal High Court, Abuja, due to the absence of a court interpreter.
The case, which was scheduled for continuation of a trial-within-trial, could not proceed after the prosecution counsel, A.O. Mohammed, informed the court that the official interpreter was engaged elsewhere on official duty.
Mohammed, representing the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), sought a short adjournment to ensure the presence of an interpreter for subsequent proceedings. The defence counsel, Emmanuel Hassan, did not object to the application.
“We are constrained to ask for a brief adjournment due to the interpreter’s official engagement,” Mohammed told the court.
Consequently, Justice James Omotosho adjourned the matter to May 8 and 9 for hearing.
Mamman is being prosecuted by the EFCC on a 12-count charge bordering on conspiracy and money laundering.
