Motorists and residents have expressed deep concern over the road’s condition.
A journey that once took about an hour now extends over four hours due to the road’s dilapidated state.
The poor condition has not only slowed down economic activities but also increased the risk of accidents and vehicle breakdowns.
The road’s degradation has led to significant economic losses for communities dependent on it for trade and transportation.
Rampant Criminal Activities
The deteriorating state of the road has provided fertile ground for criminal elements.
Reports indicate that armed groups, including the Baali militia, have been attacking travelers along the highway.
In one incident, four travelers were beheaded, and several others were kidnapped, highlighting the escalating insecurity.
Despite the presence of police and military checkpoints, these attacks continue unabated, raising questions about the effectiveness of security measures in the area.
Government Response and Public Outcry
Despite the alarming situation, there has been little to no response from the authorities.
Commuters and residents have criticized lawmakers and government officials for their silence and inaction regarding the road’s condition.
The Federal Government had allocated funds for the road’s rehabilitation, but progress has been slow, with only a small portion of the road completed.
The lack of accountability and transparency in the project has further fueled public frustration.
Call for Immediate Action
The continued neglect of the Numan–Jalingo Road is a pressing issue that demands immediate attention.
Commuters, residents, and stakeholders are urging the Federal Government to expedite the rehabilitation of the road, enhance security measures, and hold accountable those responsible for the project’s delays and mismanagement.
