Gembu, Taraba State – May 7, 2025
As part of efforts to strengthen correctional services in Nigeria, the Assistant Controller General (ACG) of the Nigeria Correctional Service, Zone “Q” (Adamawa and Taraba States), D.O. Igbago, has paid a courtesy visit to the Executive Chairman of Sardauna Local Government Area, Hon. M.J. Umar, in Gembu.

The visit, conducted alongside the Controller of Corrections for Taraba State, forms part of a broader tour across correctional facilities in the zone aimed at assessing infrastructure, engaging with inmates, and identifying areas for reform and improved service delivery.
Speaking during the visit, ACG Igbago expressed appreciation for the warm reception accorded to him and his team.

He lauded the local government for its sustained support to the Gembu Custodial Centre and reiterated the Service’s commitment to promoting rehabilitation through vocational training and educational programmes.
“We are committed to fostering partnerships that ensure inmates are not only secured but also equipped with skills to enable their reintegration into society,” he said.
Responding, Hon. Umar welcomed the delegation and reaffirmed the council’s readiness to support the Nigeria Correctional Service, despite financial and logistical constraints.

He noted that the local government would continue to prioritize the welfare of inmates and work collaboratively with relevant stakeholders to promote safer and more effective correctional systems.

The meeting also featured discussions on improving the conditions of custodial centres and enhancing synergy between local authorities and the Correctional Service.
