The Aliko Dangote Foundation (ADF) has commenced the distribution of 20,000 bags of rice to vulnerable residents across Plateau State.

The initiative, launched on Monday in Jos, is part of a broader national effort to alleviate food insecurity during the ongoing economic challenges.

Governor Caleb Mutfwang, who flagged off the distribution, expressed profound gratitude to Alhaji Aliko Dangote for the timely intervention.

He described the donation as a significant contribution to the state’s poverty alleviation efforts. “This donation comes at a critical time and will go a long way in alleviating the suffering of our people,” Governor Mutfwang stated.

“We commend Alhaji Dangote for remembering the poor despite his enormous wealth. His actions are worthy of emulation.”

The rice distribution is part of the ADF’s nationwide initiative to distribute one million 10kg bags of rice across all 774 local government areas in Nigeria. Plateau State is among the beneficiaries of this large-scale humanitarian effort.

Governor Mutfwang emphasized that the donation aligns with his administration’s ongoing strategies to improve the welfare of residents and tackle poverty.

“We are taking deliberate steps to uplift the less privileged in Plateau. This food programme is a welcomed intervention,” he remarked. He also mentioned plans to personally write to thank Dangote and call for more support.

The Executive Secretary of the Plateau State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Mr. Sunday Abdul, assured that the distribution would be carried out transparently and equitably to ensure the items reach the most vulnerable.

A representative of the Dangote Foundation, Bashir Adamu-Kawu, reiterated the foundation’s commitment to easing the burden of hardship among Nigerians, especially in challenging economic times. He stated that the initiative is part of the foundation’s nationwide outreach aimed at supporting the poorest in society.

This distribution follows similar initiatives in other states, including Bauchi, Lagos, and Katsina, where the Dangote Foundation has provided substantial food aid to vulnerable communities.
