The Gombe State Executive Council, chaired by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has approved several multi-billion naira projects aimed at enhancing infrastructure, education, and economic development across the state.
Infrastructure Development
The Council sanctioned over 74 kilometers of rural road construction under the World Bank-supported Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP). The roads include:
Kembu–Kidda–Panda–Garin Alhaji Road (25km) in Akko LGA
Kwanan Daniya–Daban Fulani–Bajoga Magaba Road (18km) in Funakaye LGA
Dukku–Zaune Road (31km) in Dukku LGA
The state has committed N3 billion as counterpart funding for these projects. Additionally, the Council approved N545 million to expedite the completion of the Kumo–Luggerewo–Papa Road, setting a one-month deadline for the contractor. An augmentation of N7.6 billion was also approved for the Ture–Gelengu Road project to offset rising material costs.
In Balanga LGA, N2.4 billion was approved for the construction of a 4.5-kilometer road linking Talasse Road to Balanga Gari, with an eight-month completion timeline.
Education and Social Development
The state has allocated N5.2 billion as counterpart funding for Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) projects for 2024 and the first quarter of 2025. The Council also approved the release of remaining 2025 counterpart funds when due.
In line with the National Hajj Commission’s requirements, the state government provided $481,000, representing $500 per pilgrim for 969 intending pilgrims. A reimbursement of N769 million was received from NAHCON to facilitate this.
Environmental and Industrial Projects
The Council approved N5.5 billion for the completion of the Muhammadu Buhari Industrial Park, a flagship economic project initiated four years ago. The fund will be used to provide critical infrastructure and facilities needed for the park to commence full operations.
Compensation was also approved for communities affected by a multi-billion naira gully erosion control project under the World Bank-funded ACReSAL Project. The affected corridor runs from Abdullahi Ganduje Road to Government Girls Science Secondary School, Doma, covering approximately 30 kilometers.
Counterpart Funding for Donor Projects
The Council approved N2.8 billion as counterpart funding for various donor agencies and development partners operating within the state. Beneficiaries include the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the Nigeria for Women project, and the United Nations Population Fund, among others. These funds reflect the government’s commitment to development and fulfilling agreements with donor agencies.
These strategic investments are expected to accelerate human and capital development in Gombe State, positioning it for sustained growth and prosperity.
