The late editor of Worldview Magazine and Assistant Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Taraba State Council, Comrade Jethro Yerga, has been laid to rest amid emotional scenes from family, colleagues, and sympathizers.
Yerga was interred at Unique Nursery and Primary School, Kyado, in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State, a school he founded and where he had sought refuge as an Internally Displaced Person (IDP) until his demise.
The burial took place at the school premises due to the lingering Jukun-Tiv conflict, which has rendered many Tiv indigenes—including Yerga—unable to return to their ancestral homes in parts of Taraba State.
His ancestral home is Tse-Atenga (Tor-Iorshaer) village, located in Rafinkada District of Wukari Local Government Area, Taraba State.
Officiating the funeral service, Reverend A.Y. Waako of the NKST Church, Ayu, drew from the Book of Psalms to reflect on the fleeting nature of life.
He described Yerga as a devout Christian, diligent professional, and compassionate individual who remained steadfast in service to God and humanity.
“Though his passing is painful and untimely, it is divinely ordained,” Rev. Waako said, urging mourners to place their hope and trust in God.
Elder David M. Msue, speaking on behalf of the family, expressed appreciation to the NUJ Taraba State Council under the leadership of Comrade Matthew Eliud Jen, as well as the management of Worldview Publication and Creative Services Ltd., for their support.
He also thanked pastors, church elders, and members of NKST congregations in Ayu and Jalingo for their prayers and solidarity.
Yerga is survived by his wife, mother, and siblings.
