Aliko Dangote has announced a N15 billion, five-year development plan for the Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology (ADUSTech) in Wudil, Kano State. The announcement was made during the university’s fifth combined convocation and Dangote’s formal investiture as Chancellor.
The investment will fund key infrastructure projects, including the construction of male and female hostels, a world-class multipurpose computer lab with 24-hour internet access, and a mini solar power plant to ensure steady electricity supply.
Dangote expressed a strong commitment to elevating ADUSTech to one of the top three universities in Nigeria.
He also pledged employment opportunities for top-performing engineering graduates at the Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Dangote Cement.
To ensure accountability, Dangote stated he will provide biannual project updates to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, who was commended for prioritizing education by declaring a state of emergency in the sector.
Governor Yusuf, the university’s Visitor, announced the approval for road and drainage construction at the campus.
He reiterated his administration’s support for the university. Vice Chancellor Professor Musa Yakasai revealed that Governor Yusuf had approved N2.1 billion to clear the university’s liabilities.
He also acknowledged Dangote’s payment of over N300 million in electricity bills for the institution.
Yakasai shared plans to introduce additional academic programmes, noting that over 30 have already received accreditation.
He congratulated the 18,000 graduating students, urging them to be focused and to serve as worthy ambassadors of the university.
The ceremony also featured the conferment of honorary doctorate degrees to Senator Rabi’u Kwankwaso, Alhaji Dahiru Mangal, Prince Arthur Eze, Dr. Ahmed Raji SAN, and Alhaji Mustapha Muhammad.
