KADUNA — May 10, 2025
Journalists were barred from covering the Northern Governors’ Forum (NGF) meeting held Friday at Sir Kashim Ibrahim House, Kaduna, prompting backlash from media professionals and the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).

The exclusion was reportedly directed by Governor Uba Sani’s Press Secretary, Ibrahim Musa, who submitted a restricted list of approved reporters. Many journalists arrived but were denied entry, leading to widespread frustration.
“This action is unjustified and undermines transparency,” said NUJ Chairman in Kaduna, Abdulgaffar Alabewele, who refused to attend the meeting in protest, despite being listed for access.

Critics say the press secretary has a history of limiting media access and ignoring prior commitments to hold inclusive government briefings. Calls to Musa for comment were unanswered at the time of this report.
The NUJ has called on Governor Sani to intervene and ensure full media access to public events moving forward.
