Maiduguri – May 10, 2025
Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State has ordered the immediate suspension of petrol sales in all filling stations across Bama Local Government Area, including Bama town and the border community of Banki.

The directive is part of renewed efforts to curb the diversion of petroleum products to non-state armed groups operating in the region. Security operatives have been deployed to enforce compliance.
Speaking through his spokesperson, Isa Gusau, the governor said the measure was necessary to “cut off supplies that aid the mobility and operations of insurgents in hard-to-reach areas.”
“This decision was not taken lightly,” Gusau noted. “It follows credible intelligence and consultations with security agencies. We urge residents to remain calm and cooperate fully with authorities as we prioritise public safety.”

The government has not disclosed how long the ban will be in effect or whether exemptions will be made for essential services.
