Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, has lauded the former Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Mr. Joseph Joshua, for his “dedicated and impactful service” following the formal dissolution of the ministry.
In an official statement issued on Wednesday, the Governor praised Joshua’s contributions to youth-focused programmes and sports development during his tenure, saying his efforts aligned with the state’s goals for inclusive growth and excellence.
“The impact of your efforts will be felt for many years to come, and your expertise will remain valuable in the future,” Governor Kefas stated.
He also assured the former commissioner of the government’s continued appreciation and openness to future collaboration in other capacities.
The disengagement follows recent structural changes by the state government aimed at streamlining governance for improved efficiency.
As part of the process, Mr. Joshua has been instructed to hand over all government property in his custody to the Permanent Secretary, Political Affairs Department, in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the State.
The move marks a new phase in Governor Kefas’ administrative reforms, which have seen adjustments across several ministries and agencies in a bid to enhance public service delivery.
Public Reaction
A civil society advocate and youth development analyst based in Jalingo, Emmanuel Uba, welcomed the Governor’s acknowledgment of Mr. Joshua’s service but called for transparency in the restructuring process.
“While it’s commendable to recognize public officials who serve diligently, the government should also provide clarity on how the youth and sports mandate will now be handled, given its importance to development,” Uba said.
As of press time, the government has yet to announce where youth and sports-related responsibilities will be reassigned.
