Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has signed the Gombe State Electricity Law 2025, effectively establishing the State Electricity Market and Regulatory Commission in line with the Electricity Act 2023.
The law, passed by the State House of Assembly on April 29 and signed into law on May 5, grants the state legal authority to regulate electricity generation, transmission, distribution, and consumption within its territory.
The new legislation sets up two key institutions: the Gombe State Electricity Market and the Gombe State Electricity Regulatory Commission (GSERC), which will serve as the primary regulator for intra-state electricity operations.
Director-General, Press Affairs, Government House, Ismaila Uba Misilli, described the move as a strategic effort to reposition the state’s energy sector for efficiency and private investment.
“Gombe is already home to the Dadinkowa Hydro-Electric Power Station, which contributes about 40 megawatts to the national grid. With this law, the state is poised to expand its energy capacity,” Misilli stated.
Commissioner for Energy and Solid Mineral Resources, Sanusi Ahmed Pindiga, said the domestication of the federal electricity law reflects the state’s commitment to energy independence, economic diversification, and sustainable development.
The law encourages the development of grid, mini-grid, and off-grid energy solutions, leveraging both renewable and non-renewable sources. It also opens the sector to public-private partnerships and independent power producers.
This legislative move coincides with the state’s industrial drive, including the ongoing Muhammadu Buhari Industrial Park in Dadinkowa, for which the government recently approved N5.5 billion in funding.
Among the key investors is Three Ace Technologies, which plans to generate over 150 megawatts of solar power for industrial and commercial use within and beyond Gombe.
The Electricity Law 2025 is regarded as a major milestone in the Inuwa Yahaya administration’s push to transform Gombe into a hub for energy and industrial development.
