No projects to commission, only renovated airport from past administration — Ardo

Jalingo Taraba – May 22, 2025

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s recent working visit to Taraba State has laid bare the shortcomings of Governor Agbu Kefas’ administration, according to Alhaji Hassan Ardo, pioneer Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state and Nigeria’s former envoy to Trinidad and Tobago.
Speaking to journalists in Jalingo on Thursday, Ardo said it was a “national embarrassment” that Vice President Kashim Shettima, who represented the President, had no people-oriented projects to commission — just days before the administration clocks two years in office.

“In other states, such visits are marked by the commissioning of major developments. But here in Taraba, what we saw was a recycled airport renovation. That airport was built over a decade ago. What new impact has this government made?” Ardo queried.
He alleged that Governor Kefas has focused state resources on cosmetic renovations of government lodges and the Government House, rather than addressing critical infrastructure gaps.
Highlighting the lingering collapse of the Namnai Bridge, Ardo said: “The bridge has remained untouched since last year. People are suffering, cut off from economic opportunities. The governor announced its reconstruction in March, yet nothing has been done.”

He accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)-led administration of failing to meet the expectations of Tarabans and called on the federal government to intervene urgently to mitigate the hardship in the state.
“Taraba is naturally an APC state. We have been robbed at the polls multiple times, but the people are with us. The failure of this government only strengthens our position,” he stated.

Despite his criticism, Ardo commended President Tinubu for prioritizing agricultural development and called on potential investors to consider Taraba’s untapped opportunities, while urging stronger federal oversight to ensure good governance in the state.
