Akpabio, Yahaya Bello to Testify as Prosecution Witnesses

The Federal Government has filed criminal charges against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan over alleged defamatory remarks made during a televised interview.
The suit, filed on May 16, 2025, is marked CR/297/25 and was lodged before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory. Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central Senatorial District, is named as the sole defendant.
According to the charge, the senator is accused of making statements “with knowledge or reason to believe” that they would damage the reputation of another individual. The offence is said to contravene Section 391 of the Penal Code Act, Cap 89, Laws of the Federation, 1990, and is punishable under Section 392 of the same law.
Notably, Senate President Godswill Akpabio and former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello have been listed among the prosecution witnesses scheduled to testify in the matter.
The development is expected to spark legal and political interest given the status of the individuals involved.
