Abeokuta – Ashiribo Olalekan, the cyclist who secured Kwara State’s first-ever gold medal at the ongoing 22nd National Sports Festival, has declared his ambition to earn a call-up to the national cycling team.
Speaking shortly after his historic win, Olalekan said his victory was motivated by the desire to bring honour to Kwara State and attract the attention of national selectors. “My target is to get a national camp call-up. That’s the dream I’ve been chasing, and I believe this gold medal has brought me a step closer,” he stated.

He acknowledged the critical role played by his coach’s dedication and commitment in preparing him for the competition. “The zeal and unwavering dedication of our coach have been a major source of motivation behind my eagerness to deliver gold for Kwara,” Olalekan added.
Expressing optimism about the team’s prospects, he said, “Our athletes are focused and determined. This gold is just the beginning.”

Olalekan’s victory marks an important breakthrough for Kwara State at the festival, which continues in Abeokuta, with expectations high for more medals in the coming days.
