The Tiv Culture and Social Association (TCSA), the apex socio-cultural body representing the Tiv people in Taraba State, has congratulated Rev. Dr. William Awoshiri on his election as Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Taraba State chapter.
In a statement issued in Jalingo on Friday, the President General of the association, Chief James Baka, described Rev. Awoshiri’s emergence as well-deserved and timely, coming at a period when the unity of the Christian body in the state is being tested.

According to Baka, the new CAN chairman’s background in both priesthood and academia positions him to bring about greater cohesion among the various Christian denominations in the state.
“The Tiv community welcomes this development and pledges its unwavering support for Rev. Awoshiri in the task of promoting peace and unity within the Church,” Baka stated.

He urged the new CAN leadership to be inclusive and to carry all blocs of the association along in the spirit of Christian unity.
Rev. Dr. Awoshiri was elected on Thursday during the CAN delegate conference held in Jalingo.
