Two years into the administration of Taraba State governor, Dr Agbu Kefas, residents have raised concerns over the lack of visible infrastructural development across the state, alleging stagnation and unmet campaign promises.
In separate interviews with NEWSPOINTER WEEKEND in Jalingo on Saturday, residents said the administration has not initiated or completed any major project, particularly in the area of capital development. They maintained that the level of infrastructure has remained static since the exit of former governor Darius Ishaku in 2023.
Dr Kefas Nyajo, one of the respondents, expressed disappointment over what he described as “an era of failed promises,” stating that “after two years in office, there is no single project to show for it.”
Another resident, Andrew Ada, alleged that while the administration continues to make public assurances, it has failed to deliver on its core mandate of development.
The residents also referenced the €150 million loan secured through the European Investment Bank in June 2024 for the construction of 500km of rural roads across six states — Taraba, Benue, Edo, Anambra, Borno, and Cross River. Each state reportedly received €25 million. However, according to the residents, no road construction has commenced in Taraba since the funds were disbursed.
“In other states, implementation has begun, but here in Taraba, not even a half-kilometre of road has been constructed,” said Ambita Ezra.
The respondents further lamented the rising poverty levels in the state, linking it to poor governance and a lack of economic and infrastructural investments. They called on the governor to urgently review his development agenda and provide accountability on how resources are being utilized.
Some of them also expressed regret for previously criticizing the former administration, noting that the current situation has further worsened.
As at press time, efforts to get a response from the state government on the allegations were unsuccessful.
