State Generated Only ₦2.33bn In Q1 2025, Scores 20% In Governance Rating

Taraba State has been ranked the least-performing state in Nigeria in both Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) and governance performance, according to separate reports released by the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) and the Commonwealth Institute for Advanced and Professional Studies (CIAPS).
The FAAC report, released on Tuesday, revealed that Taraba generated ₦2.33 billion in the first quarter of 2025 — a staggering drop from the ₦10 billion recorded in the previous quarter. The figure places the state at the bottom of the IGR chart.
In contrast, Lagos, Rivers, Oyo, Bayelsa, and Kano States topped the rankings for revenue generation, further widening the gap in economic performance across the federation.
Attempts to reach the Chairman of the Taraba State IGR Agency, Gen. Jeremiah Faransa (rtd), for an explanation were unsuccessful, as calls to his verified line went unanswered.
Meanwhile, CIAPS has also ranked Taraba State as the worst-performing state in governance, scoring only 20% on its performance index. Kaduna State led the chart with 73%, followed by other states that reportedly demonstrated higher efficiency in governance, infrastructure delivery, and public sector accountability.
The findings come shortly after the Taraba State Government hosted an International Investment Summit aimed at attracting foreign investment. Critics have since questioned the utility of the event in light of the state’s declining financial and governance indicators.
Reacting to the reports, former APC State Chairman, Alhaji Hassan Jika Ardo, said the data vindicates long-standing concerns about the poor state of governance in Taraba.
“It is saddening that our dear Taraba is rated least in everything. Billions of naira were wasted on a jamboree summit. I have consistently warned that there is no real governance happening. These reports are a wake-up call,” Ardo said.
He urged the state governor to focus on strategic reforms and prioritize the welfare of citizens over ceremonial activities.
