Karim-lamido Taraba – 2nd 2025

Communities across Ardo-Kola, Lau, and Karim-Lamido Federal Constituency in Taraba State have expressed growing dissatisfaction with the performance of their representative in the House of Representatives, Hon. Abdullahi Muhammed Lauya.
The lawmaker, who was elected under the platform of the People’s Democratic party (PDP), is being accused by constituents of neglecting his legislative and representative responsibilities, particularly during periods of crisis.

Their frustration reached a peak following Hon. Lauya’s absence at the recent mass burial of victims of a deadly herders’ attack in Karim-Lamido Local Government Area. The incident, which left several people dead, drew wide condemnation and public mourning across the state.
“Our representative was not seen during this tragedy. He neither visited the affected communities nor sent a message of condolence. It’s a total lack of concern for the people he represents,” a resident of Karim-Lamido, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told NEWSPOINTER.
Community members also alleged that the lawmaker’s tenure has so far been marked by poor constituency engagement, a lack of development projects, and broken campaign promises.

Reacting to the growing criticism, a senior official of the PDP in Taraba State, who spoke under condition of anonymity, admitted that the concerns of the constituents were “valid and not entirely unfounded.”
“We are aware of the complaints coming from Ardo-Kola, Lau, and Karim-Lamido. It is unfortunate, and we are reviewing the situation internally. The PDP remains committed to quality representation and accountability. We will not hesitate to call any of our elected officials to order if the party’s image or the people’s welfare is being undermined,” the source said.
Party stakeholders in the constituency have also begun quiet consultations on the matter, with reports indicating that some ward leaders are demanding a formal performance review of the lawmaker ahead of the next party congress.

Efforts to reach Hon. Abdullahi Muhammed Lauya for his response proved abortive, as calls and messages to his known phone lines were not returned at the time of filing this report.
The constituents, meanwhile, have urged the PDP national leadership to intervene and ensure that the lawmaker either improves his engagement with the people or steps aside for a more proactive representative.
