The Chairman of Zing Local Government Area in Taraba State, Hon. Davoro Titus, has organised a grassroots football tournament aimed at promoting unity and youth development across communities within the LGA.
The tournament, which kicked off at the local government headquarters, brought together young footballers from various communities. The event is expected to run for several weeks, with teams competing for top honours.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Titus said the competition was designed to harness the potential of young people through sports while fostering peace and social cohesion.
“Football plays a vital role in shaping the minds of young people and directing their energy towards positive engagement,” he said.
The chairman commended Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, for creating an enabling environment that supports youth and sports development in the state.
Also speaking, the Senior Special Adviser to the Governor on Sports Development, Hon. Barak Bitrus Maikidi, described the tournament as timely, saying sports remains a powerful tool for curbing youth restiveness.
“The timing of this competition is perfect. It will keep our youth engaged and focused,” Maikidi said.

On his part, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Sports Development, Bomwilliya Emmanuel, applauded the governor’s consistent support for youth initiatives. He cited the recent sponsorship of young athletes to the National Sports Festival in Ogun State as a sign of the state government’s commitment to sports.
“Taraba is blessed with vibrant youth who can favourably compete at the national level,” he added, urging other LGAs to emulate the gesture by organising similar programmes to empower the youth.
The tournament is expected to serve as a platform for discovering new football talent while strengthening community ties across Zing LGA.
