Gombe Nigeria – June 11, 2025

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Gombe State has accused the Governor Inuwa Yahaya-led All Progressives Congress (APC) administration of failing to tackle rising insecurity following the brutal killing of a young industrialist, Amadu Kasiran, by suspected thugs on June 8.

The PDP, in a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Abdulkadir Ahmad Dukku, said the state is witnessing a disturbing spike in violent crimes, including phone snatching, motorcycle theft, home invasions, and gang-related violence.

“There is blood on Gombe streets,” the party declared, warning that the APC government’s inability to secure lives and property amounts to a violation of constitutional responsibilities.

The PDP said the Yahaya administration had failed in its oath to protect the people, adding that the murder of Kasiran was “a tragic reminder of the breakdown in law and order.”

“These acts of violence are indicators of a government that has abandoned its duty,” the party stated. “Section 14(2)(b) of the Nigerian Constitution mandates that the security and welfare of the people shall be the primary purpose of government. Any failure in this duty is a constitutional breach.”

The party also alleged that the APC-led government had turned a blind eye to the worsening socio-economic conditions, blaming the lack of jobs and youth empowerment for the rise in criminality.

“Our youths and women are unemployed and disempowered, while grassroots businesses are ignored. The result is frustration, gang recruitment, and drug abuse,” the PDP said.

It warned that continued neglect could attract political and legal consequences, including charges of misconduct or dereliction of duty.

The PDP further urged the Yahaya administration to seek inspiration from former Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo, whom it praised for “prudent governance and integrity.”

“Leadership is not about media stunts or political bravado. It is about commitment to people’s welfare,” the statement added.

As of the time of filing this report, the Gombe State Government has not responded to the PDP’s allegations.
