Women in Igbaja, Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, have taken a bold step toward grassroots development with the launch of the Igbaja Queens Club (IQC)—a platform aimed at empowering women and children through vocational training and community-building initiatives.
The launch, which took place at Elese’s Place in Igbaja, attracted traditional rulers, community stakeholders, and development advocates from within and outside the state.

Speaking at the event, Queen Muibat Olagunju, the Yeye Meso of Igbaja, said the initiative was borne out of a shared desire among Igbaja women to promote economic self-reliance and strengthen family units through skills acquisition.
“Our dream is to empower women and children. We’re working towards establishing a vocational centre where practical skills will be taught to help women earn income and support their families,” she said.
Also speaking, Queen Arinola Aroyehun and Hajia Rasheedat Oladimeji Oye, the Erelu of Igbaja, emphasized inclusiveness, stating that membership is open to all Igbaja women and those married into the town.
“We want every woman with the will to grow to know that she belongs here,” Queen Arinola said.
Another member, Queen Muibat Aribidesi, expressed appreciation for the success of the launch and thanked God for the safe arrival of members who travelled from across Nigeria and abroad.
In his remarks, the Elese of Igbaja, HRM Dr Ahmed Awuni Babalola Arepo III, described the initiative as a symbol of unity and selfless service. He urged the group to remain focused and committed to their mission.

Also present at the event was the Asiwaju of Igbomina Land and Arogundade of Lagos, Alhaji Abdulraheem Oladimeji, who pledged support for the club and called for transparency and inclusivity in its operations.
To support the planned vocational centre, the club solicited donations and financial pledges from dignitaries and the wider public.
The event featured cultural performances, musical entertainment, and the presentation of gifts to female students, showcasing Igbaja’s cultural richness and heralding a new chapter of empowerment for women in the community.
