Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has expressed confidence that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will remain Nigeria’s ruling party for the foreseeable future, citing what he described as the party’s strategic investments in its members and the country.
Speaking during the APC Northeast stakeholders’ consultative meeting held in Gombe on Monday, Governor Buni said the party’s ten-year rule was not a coincidence but a result of “careful and strategic planning, focused leadership, and inclusive governance.”

He urged party members in Yobe, Gombe, and Adamawa States to remain committed to the APC and continue supporting its efforts in deepening democracy in the region.
“The experience I had as a two-term National Secretary of the party, and later as Chairman, shows that inclusivity and strategy bring people into the fold,” Buni said.
He recalled that during his tenure as party chairman, the APC witnessed the defection of three sitting governors and numerous lawmakers from other political parties.
Buni commended the current APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, for sustaining the party’s fortunes and managing recent defections effectively.
While acknowledging that the party is not without internal disagreements, Buni said such disputes are “manageable” and should not detract from its broader objectives.

The governor also emphasized the need for continued collaboration with security agencies in the Northeast, especially as the rainy season begins. He said ensuring access to farmland was critical to achieving food security in the region.
“In light of the achievements of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, and in the spirit of justice and national interest, we believe the President should be given the right of first refusal to run for a second term in 2027, alongside Vice President Kashim Shettima,” Buni added.
The meeting brought together APC stakeholders from the Northeast geopolitical zone, as part of efforts to strengthen party unity and prepare for future electoral contests.
