The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier-General Olakunle O. Nafiu, has advised corps members to shun frivolous use of social media and focus on purposeful service to the nation.
Addressing the 2025 Batch A Stream 2 corps members at the NYSC orientation camp in Yikpata, Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State, the DG described social media as a powerful tool that must be used responsibly.

“Social media is a great platform when used rightly,” he said. “But taking personal or trivial issues meant for direct resolution to social media could cost you dearly, both now and in the future.”
He urged the corps members to see the one-year national service as a period to prepare for future leadership roles, urging them to be patriotic, disciplined, and dedicated.
“You have been called to serve your country. This is not just a formality; it is a call to responsibility, loyalty, and nation-building,” he said.

Earlier, the NYSC Kwara State Coordinator, Mr. Onifade Olaoluwa Joshua, thanked the DG for the visit, saying it would inspire the 2,290 corps members currently undergoing orientation in the state.
“This visit will no doubt boost the morale of our corps members. They are enthusiastic and ready to give their best to the nation,” he said.
The DG’s visit comes amid growing concerns over the misuse of social media and its impact on national unity and discipline among young Nigerians.
