Premier Seed Nigeria Limited has commissioned a state-of-the-art seed processing factory in Gombe State, the first of its kind in Nigeria’s Northeast region.
The facility, located at the Muhammadu Buhari Industrial Park in Dadin Kowa, was inaugurated on Monday by former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who was accompanied by the Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya.

Speaking at the event, Obasanjo, who is also a commercial farmer, described seed as the most crucial input in the agricultural value chain. “If you don’t get the seed component right, the entire value chain becomes shaky,” he said.
The former president commended the Gombe State Government for establishing the industrial park and said its proximity to the 40MW Dadinkowa Hydropower Plant puts the state on a path towards industrial growth.
Governor Yahaya described the commissioning as a major step in his administration’s plan to transform Gombe into a leading agro-industrial hub.

“Premier Seed Nigeria Limited, as the pioneer investor in this Industrial Park, is helping us translate our vision into reality,” the governor said.
He added that the park is equipped with essential infrastructure, including roads, electricity, water, and internet connectivity. “We are not just commissioning a building, we are unlocking opportunities for job creation, wealth generation, and long-term economic transformation,” he said.
The Managing Director of Premier Seed Nigeria Limited, Mr. Ibitoye Oyewale, said the project was delivered through a partnership with Propcom+, a UK-funded initiative supporting climate-smart agriculture.
He said the factory will provide improved access to quality seeds for farmers across Gombe State, the Northeast, and Nigeria in general.
Director-General of the National Agricultural Seed Council (NASC), Hon. Futuhu Mohammed, said the Council will continue to monitor and ensure that all seeds produced in the country meet the required federal quality standards.
The facility is equipped with modern machinery for cleaning, grading, treating, and packaging certified seed varieties tailored to climate resilience and higher yield performance.
