Five Dead, 10 Injured as Police Recover Suspected Explosives

KANO Nigeria— June 22, 2025
Tragedy struck at the Yongxing Steel Company in the Mariri Quarters of Kano on Friday when an explosion rocked the premises, killing five persons and injuring 10 others. The blast occurred while scrap materials from Damaturu, Yobe State, were being offloaded from a truck inside the factory.
The Kano State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, led a team of emergency responders to the scene after receiving a distress call from the company’s Marketing Manager, Mr. Ibrahim Udazu.

Police operatives, including the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit and chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) experts, swiftly cordoned off the area and recovered seven suspected explosive devices.
Speaking through the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Hussaini Abdullahi, the Command confirmed that 15 persons were initially rushed to the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital with injuries.
“Unfortunately, five of the victims later died while receiving treatment,” Abdullahi said. “Others are responding to treatment.”

CP Bakori has ordered a thorough investigation into the incident to determine the cause of the explosion and identify any criminal elements involved. He assured residents that all necessary measures are being taken to prevent a recurrence.
“We urge members of the public to remain calm and to provide any useful information that can assist ongoing investigations,” Bakori stated.
