The Gombe State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has distanced itself from an emerging opposition coalition said to be aimed at unseating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.
The coalition, reportedly formed during a recent meeting convened by Mohammed Jibrin Barde, the PDP’s 2023 governorship candidate in the state, was described by the party as “ill-motivated” and “unauthorised.”

In a statement issued on Monday and signed by PDP State Publicity Secretary, Abdulkadir Ahmad Dukku, the party said it was not consulted nor represented at the meeting, and condemned any claim suggesting otherwise.
“The PDP, as the leading opposition party in Gombe, dissociates itself from the so-called collaborative meeting. It is false, ill-motivated, and illegal for any member to attend without formal permission from the party’s leadership,” the statement read.
The party denied authorizing any of its officials or members to participate in the meeting, and warned that those who did so acted in their personal capacity.
“Gombe State PDP office is not aware of the meeting, is not a participant, and did not delegate any official, organ, or member to attend. Any member who participated did so without the party’s endorsement,” it added.
Describing a viral video clip from the meeting as “misleading,” the PDP accused the organisers of attempting to create division within its ranks.
“The meeting is malicious and intended to confuse party members. We urge our members, supporters, and well-wishers to disregard the video and any claims arising from it,” the party stated.

The PDP also advised members to remain loyal and avoid being misled by “faceless politicians” seeking to destabilise the party ahead of 2027.
“The PDP remains focused on strengthening its internal structures to ensure success in the upcoming elections. Members are urged to stay firm and united,” the statement concluded.
