Former Minister of Transport, Senator Abdullahi Idris Umar, has taken the frontline in rallying opposition forces in Gombe State ahead of the 2027 general elections, as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) held what turned into a massive gathering of disaffected politicians in the state.
What was expected to be an expanded ADC caucus meeting on Monday turned into a political show of strength as the Shugliz Event Centre along Bauchi Road, Gombe, overflowed with party supporters and opposition figures from across political lines.

The event attracted a wide range of politicians, including former members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Labour Party (LP), and All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). Attendees expressed frustration over the APC-led government’s handling of governance at both the state and federal levels.
Security operatives were seen struggling to manage the crowd as thousands turned up at the venue, signaling growing unrest and desire for political alternatives in the state.
Among the notable personalities who attended or sent representatives were the immediate past Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami; former PDP governorship aspirants Alhaji Adamu Fura and Dr. Babayo Ardo; and a former Deputy Governor of Gombe State, Dr. John L. Yoriyo.
In his address, Senator Umar—introduced as the state leader of the ADC—described the turnout as a clear signal that Nigerians are disillusioned with the current administration and eager for change.
“This gathering is not about power for power’s sake. It shows Nigerians are tired, angry, and hungry for a turnaround in their lives and the lives of their children,” Umar said.
He added that the ADC has begun building structures across the state and is ready to welcome more defectors and reform-minded citizens who want to join hands in “rescuing Nigeria.”

According to him, the party remains open to all Nigerians of goodwill and is committed to building a broad coalition that will bring about credible leadership in 2027.
The massive turnout is seen by political observers as a strong signal of shifting alliances in Gombe State and a challenge to the dominance of the APC in the Northeast region.
