Fresh attacks have rocked several communities in Karim Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State, leaving multiple people feared dead and hundreds displaced as assailants reportedly set homes ablaze and razed entire villages.
The violence, which occurred in the early hours of let hours of Wernsday 9, July 2025, has plunged the affected communities into panic, with many residents fleeing for safety amid growing concerns over a lack of sustained security presence in the area.

Eyewitnesses told NEWSPOINTER News that the attackers, suspected to be armed militias, stormed villages in coordinated strikes, shooting sporadically and torching properties. While the exact number of casualties is yet to be confirmed, local sources say scores may have been killed and several others injured.
“We were woken up by gunshots. People ran into the bush. By the time we returned, our houses were gone,” said a resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of reprisal.
Community leaders have decried what they describe as repeated attacks without adequate government intervention, urging both the state and federal authorities to act swiftly.
“This is no longer an isolated incident — it’s becoming a pattern. Entire communities are being wiped out. We need urgent action,” a local chief told Taraba News.
The Taraba State Government has confirmed the attacks and said investigations are ongoing. The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Yusuf Sanda, in a brief statement, assured residents that measures are being put in place to restore peace and bring perpetrators to justice.
However, civil society groups and affected residents have faulted the government’s response, describing it as reactive and insufficient.
“It is not enough to set up panels after every bloodbath. We need visible security deployment, intelligence coordination, and swift prosecution of those behind the violence,” a representative of a local advocacy group said.
Calls have intensified for Governor Agbu Kefas and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to urgently intervene and fulfill their constitutional responsibility to protect lives and property.
Security agencies have yet to issue an official statement on the incident, but sources within the police command in the state hinted that reinforcement may be deployed to the area.

As of press time, displaced families were seeking refuge in neighbouring communities, with humanitarian concerns rising over food, shelter, and medical support.
Karim Lamido, located in the northern part of Taraba State, has in recent years witnessed sporadic violence linked to communal disputes and banditry, raising fears of a larger security breakdown if urgent steps are not taken.
