The Northern States Governors’ Forum has expressed grief over the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing it as a monumental national loss.
Buhari, a retired General and two-time Nigerian leader, was confirmed dead on Sunday evening at a London hospital after battling an undisclosed illness.

Chairman of the forum and Governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, in a statement on Monday signed by his media aide, Ismaila Uba Misilli, said the news of Buhari’s death was received with deep shock and sorrow.
“The Northern States Governors’ Forum received with deep shock and immense sorrow the news of the demise of His Excellency, Muhammadu Buhari, former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” the statement read.
Yahaya described Buhari as an iconic figure whose life was defined by discipline, integrity and unwavering commitment to national service.
“From his days as a young military officer to his time as Head of State and later as a democratically elected President, Buhari distinguished himself as a leader of conviction and purpose,” he said.
According to the forum, Buhari’s legacy of sacrifice, selflessness and dedication to Nigeria’s unity and development will remain unmatched.
“To us in the Northern Governors’ Forum, President Buhari was not just a national icon, but also a mentor and moral compass who stood firm on the principles of accountability, transparency and good governance,” Yahaya said.

He extended condolences to Buhari’s family, the Daura Emirate, the government and people of Katsina State, and Nigerians at large.
“We pray that Almighty Allah, in His infinite mercy, forgive his shortcomings and grant him eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus,” he added.
