The Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Taraba State chapter, has been commended for the disbursement of funds to retired local government workers and families of deceased staff across the state.
Speaking in Zing on Friday, the State Welfare Secretary of NULGE, Comrade Hamza Abubakar, described the payment as a much-needed relief for those who had dedicated their careers to grassroots service.

“This is a significant step that brings long-awaited relief to people who gave their best to serve their communities,” he said.
Abubakar applauded the union’s leadership for what he called a transparent and accountable process. He added that the initiative demonstrates NULGE’s commitment to justice, dignity, and welfare for workers, both living and late.
“This is more than welfare—it is service to humanity,” he stated. “These are people who have served, and it is only right that they are remembered and supported.”
He called on other labour unions to emulate the gesture, stressing the importance of institutionalising such support systems for retired and deceased workers’ families.
Meanwhile, in the same vein the Permanent Secretary, Bureau for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr. Godfrey Andrew Dame—represented by Director for Local Government, Mohammed Jingulde—commended NULGE and its partners for the initiative.
He urged beneficiaries to use the funds wisely, while encouraging the union to sustain the programme to further strengthen economic self-reliance and development at the grassroots.
