President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has lauded the Yobe State government for its massive investment in the agricultural sector, describing it as a critical step towards achieving food sufficiency and national security.
Speaking in Damaturu at the official launch of the Yobe State Agricultural Empowerment Programme, President Tinubu, who was represented by his Senior Special Assistant on Political and Other Matters, Alhaji Ibrahim Kabiru Masari, said the programme is in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Federal Government.

He reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to partnering with sub-national governments to improve agricultural productivity and ensure food security across the country.
Governor Mai Mala Buni, while addressing stakeholders at the event, said his administration had invested billions of naira in procuring modern agricultural equipment and essential inputs aimed at supporting farmers across the state.
According to him, items procured for the empowerment initiative include 40 Massey Ferguson tractors, 1,961 power tillers, 1,250 hand-push planters, 553 multi-purpose threshers, 3,410 solar water pumps, 830 fertilizer applicators, 4,500 bags of NPK 20:10:10 fertilizer, and 195 crop residue crushers.
Others include 495 crop residue choppers, 20,000 assorted improved seeds, assorted agro-chemicals, 4,000 bunches of cassava stems, certified seeds, 50 tricycles, and 30 motorcycles.
“In line with our administration’s policy on agricultural development, I have directed that all machines, equipment and inputs under this programme be distributed free to deserving farmers across the state,” Governor Buni declared.

He further announced a 50 per cent subsidy on the sale of fertilizers to enhance affordability and encourage wider adoption among local farmers.
It would be recalled that in 2024, the state government distributed 100 tractors, hand-tilling machines, solar-powered irrigation systems, harvesters, threshers, improved seedlings, and fertilizers free of charge to farmers as part of its broader agricultural support initiative.
