The Taraba State High Court has assumed jurisdiction in the case of Mr. Yayeti Akila, ordering the transfer of the matter from a Magistrate Court in Yola, Adamawa State, to Jalingo.

The High Court ruled that the Yola court lacked jurisdiction to entertain a case that originated from Taraba. Following the decision, Mr. Akila was on Thursday moved from Yola Correctional Centre to Jalingo Prison.
It would be recalled that Justice Clara Kataps had earlier discharged and acquitted Mr. Akila of allegations brought against him by his elder brother, Hon. Nuhu Akila, member representing Lau State Constituency. That ruling followed a three-month detention in Jalingo without trial or conviction.
In February 2025, however, Mr. Akila was rearrested in Mayolope and taken to Yola, where a Magistrate Court remanded him in prison custody. He has remained there since, without conviction.
