In a bold move to tackle unemployment and build self-reliant citizens, over 70 young people in Kwara State have been trained in digital media and drone piloting — skills many experts say could open up billion-dollar opportunities for the country’s youth.
The training, organised by 132 Media Academy and held at the Kwara State Library, Ilorin, focused on practical knowledge in camera operation, drone flying, lighting, sound engineering, and video editing.

But beyond the technical skills, the event also carried a strong message of responsible media use. Speaking on the theme “How to Use the Media Responsibly,” Chairman of the NUJ, Kwara Council, Comrade Abdulateef Ahmed, warned that digital tools in the wrong hands could cause more harm than good.
“Digital media is a powerful tool. Use it responsibly, in ways that will not endanger our national interest. Share what you have learnt with others so that together we can build a better society,” he charged the participants.
Representing the General Manager of Radio Kwara, Alhaji Sikiru Azeez linked the initiative to reducing restiveness and unemployment, stressing that skills acquisition was a tested way to keep youths away from crime and dependency.
For Mr. Oludele Ayobami, the emphasis was on personal reputation. He urged the trainees to remember that every video, picture, or message they publish becomes part of their digital identity.
“Guard your reputation, because the content you share defines you. With these skills, you can make meaningful impacts and light up your world,” he said.
The academy’s CEO, Mr. Tijani Ajara, told Newspointer that the programme was part of a larger vision to groom young Nigerians who can compete globally. He disclosed that over 500 youths have so far been trained free of charge within and outside Kwara State.
Ajara further revealed that the academy sees digital skills as Nigeria’s next oil well.

“This is a yearly tradition we intend to sustain. There is a global market worth over 20 trillion dollars in digital skills. Our young people must be ready to explore and take advantage of it. We are determined to raise content creators who will promote peace and development in Nigeria,” he said.
Observers say the real test, however, will be whether the beneficiaries can translate these skills into sustainable jobs, businesses, and community impact in a state where youth unemployment remains a stubborn challenge.
