Hon. Alfred Emberga has been sworn in as the new Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly following the resignation of his predecessor earlier on Sunday.

The oath of office was administered by the Clerk of the House during a brief ceremony at the Assembly complex in Makurdi. The event was attended by members of the legislature, political stakeholders and invited guests.
In his acceptance speech, Emberga pledged to carry all members along in the discharge of his duties, while assuring that the Assembly under his watch would focus on laws that promote peace, accountability and the development of Benue State.
“I see this as a call to service for the good of our people. I will uphold the constitution and work with my colleagues irrespective of political affiliations,” he said.
Some lawmakers welcomed his emergence, expressing confidence that his leadership would stabilise the Assembly and strengthen its working relationship with the executive.
