Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has approved a comprehensive plan to strengthen technical and vocational education across the three senatorial zones of the state.
Zulum gave the directive on Monday while receiving the report on repositioning technical and vocational education in Borno at the council chamber.
The governor said the move was aimed at equipping young people with skills to meet industry demands and drive economic growth.
“The mismatch between our graduates and the labour market is deep, and if we want to address that, we should ensure that a robust technical and vocational education is established,” Zulum said.
He noted that while progress had been recorded in providing vocational training, more needed to be done, hence the decision to set up a committee to review and reposition the system.
Presenting the committee’s findings, its chairman, Alhaji Goni Ibrahim, said the review was carried out through site visits, stakeholder consultations, and comparative studies.
Meanwhile, Zulum directed the Ministry of Education to collaborate with the Sangaya Education Board to introduce Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in Almajiri schools.

“I have instructed the Commissioner of Education to liaise with the Executive Secretary of the Sangaya Education Board to consider introducing technical and vocational education in our Sangaya schools,” the governor added.
He also commended the Commissioner of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Engr. Lawan Abba Wakilbe, for what he described as his exemplary leadership in the sector.
