Stakeholders in Ibi Local Government Area of Taraba State have reaffirmed their loyalty and support for Governor Agbu Kefas’s administration but rejected the chairmanship candidature of Emmanuel Ubandoma, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) nominee for the forthcoming local government election.
The stakeholders, under the aegis of Concerned Leaders of Ibi, made their position known in a statement issued on Friday. They alleged that Ubandoma had a history of criminal allegations both in the past and at present, insisting that such a record makes him unfit to govern at the grassroots level.
The statement read in part: “We wish to categorically state that while we remain solidly behind the administration of His Excellency, Governor Agbu Kefas, we cannot in good conscience support the nomination of Emmanuel Ubandoma as the PDP chairmanship candidate for Ibi. His antecedents and the series of allegations against him pose a threat to peace, stability, and good governance in our local government.”
The stakeholders warned that fielding Ubandoma as the PDP’s flag bearer could worsen insecurity and erode public trust in the party within the council area.
They, therefore, called on the party leadership at both the state and national levels to review Ubandoma’s nomination and replace him with what they described as “a credible and untainted candidate.”
“We believe the governor’s reform agenda for Taraba will only succeed when competent and transparent leaders are allowed to emerge at the grassroots. Imposing someone with questionable records on the people of Ibi will only derail that vision,” the statement added.

The PDP is yet to officially respond to the concerns raised by the stakeholders.
