The Taraba State chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has lauded the appointment of its immediate past Deputy President, Abubakar Sadiq Moyoyo, into the Taraba State Sports Development Commission, describing it as a well-deserved recognition of professionalism and dedication to sports journalism.
Chairman of the association, Jude Nuhu Gundale, stated this when he led members of the state executive council and other members of SWAN on a congratulatory visit to Moyoyo’s residence in Jalingo. He noted that the appointee had garnered extensive experience in sports reporting and administration, which he said would be instrumental in repositioning sports development in the state.

Gundale also commended Governor Agbu Kefas for his continuous support and friendly relationship with the press. He urged Moyoyo to justify the confidence reposed in him by contributing meaningfully to the transformation of the sports sector and raising it to enviable heights.
The SWAN chairman further pledged the association’s support for the policies and programmes of the Kefas administration, assuring that sports journalists in the state would continue to promote the government’s development agenda.
In his response, Moyoyo expressed appreciation to SWAN for the visit, describing the gesture as memorable and symbolic. He noted that Governor Kefas’s appointment of four members of SWAN into various positions in the state was historic and a testament to the governor’s belief in the capacity of media professionals to drive development.

He assured that he would bring his wealth of experience to bear in advancing sports in the state and promised to work closely with SWAN to ensure a result-oriented sports commission. He also advised members of the association to remain united and avoid divisive tendencies that could undermine the group’s integrity.
Moyoyo used the occasion to appreciate the National President of SWAN, Mr. Isiah Benjamin, and the North-East Zonal Vice President, Mr. Ahmed Amshi, for their roles in fostering unity among members across the country.

In a vote of thanks, a member of the association, Linda Gwana, said Moyoyo’s appointment was not a surprise considering his contributions to sports journalism over the years. She appealed to the governor to consider more SWAN members for appointments, noting that the association has many qualified professionals capable of contributing to the state’s development.
The visit ended with prayers for the peace, progress, and prosperity of Taraba State and Nigeria at large.
