Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, has lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Department of State Services (DSS) for their strategic intervention in dismantling a gunrunning syndicate and recovering a cache of arms and ammunition through coordinated intelligence operations in the state.
The governor described the successful operation as a significant breakthrough in the state’s security architecture and a validation of his administration’s Kaduna Peace Model, which focuses on intelligence-led policing, inter-agency collaboration, and proactive engagement with communities.
Speaking through the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Sule Shuaibu (SAN), Sani said the development underscored the effectiveness of sustained collaboration between security agencies and the state government in curbing insecurity.
“There must be some bad eggs who want to undermine government efforts, but the DSS in Kaduna has done excellently well. This is the kind of outcome we achieve when institutions work in synergy,” the governor stated.
He emphasised that the Kaduna Peace Model has continued to yield measurable results by integrating non-kinetic conflict management strategies with actionable intelligence. According to him, the initiative has helped reduce criminal incidents and has become a reference point for other states seeking sustainable peace frameworks.
Sani also commended President Tinubu and the Director-General of the DSS for their unwavering commitment to strengthening national and subnational security institutions. He noted that Kaduna has witnessed greater operational efficiency and improved coordination under their leadership.
“The peace and security we enjoy today in Kaduna are the products of consistent policy support, investment in security infrastructure, and trust-building with communities,” he added.
While calling on residents to remain vigilant and share credible intelligence with security agencies, Sani assured that the state government would continue to support joint operations aimed at consolidating recent gains. “When you see something, say something. Together, we will keep Kaduna safe,” he said.
Findings by NEWSPOINTER revealed that the DSS arrested three suspects linked to a major gunrunning network supplying arms to bandit groups across Northern Nigeria. The suspects were apprehended in separate covert operations in Igabi and Kachia Local Government Areas.
According to security sources, the first suspect, aged 30, was intercepted along Nnamdi Azikiwe Bypass in Igabi while transporting weapons concealed in sacks of maize. Items recovered included two AK-47 rifles, one PKT machine gun, 220 rounds of live ammunition, and four empty magazines.

Two others, aged 44 and 38, were later arrested along the Kaduna–Abuja expressway with three AK-47 rifles, three magazines, and ₦69,050 hidden inside their vehicle. Preliminary investigations revealed that the weapons were destined for a notorious bandit network operating in Niger State, with Kaduna serving as a transit route.
A senior security official told NEWSPOINTER that President Tinubu had directed the DSS to intensify efforts to dismantle the entire gunrunning network, trace their supply chains, and neutralized the bandit groups benefiting from their operations.
